Very unhappy with both the service and installation process. In hindsight, we should have gone with a different company. Went in store to see what options were available and made a selection with Moe. The installer, Sam visited our home to take measurements and notes on what we wanted to have completed. We needed our first and second floors replaced as well as our stairs. First floor had a mix of wood and carpeting and stairs and second floor was all carpet. A week or so went by and we had to continuously follow up to find out a quote (this is where we should have looked for a different company). We finally got a quote and agreed on the final price. Material was delivered by a team and we were ready for installation. Installation day came and Sam arrived with two men. He walked them through the house and reconfirmed everything with us. He also confirmed the stair installers would be different people. We assumed everything was in order and stayed in another room to stay out of their way. Then to our surprise, Sam left. We thought he would be staying onsite to do the work but he didn’t and it wasn’t communicated to us. The two men did not speak English, so communication was nearly impossible; we had to keep calling Sam to play referee. The men damaged one of our window screens and used our appliances without asking; we had to ask them not to use them the second day. They did not level out the flooring and three years later, we now have multiple areas where the vinyl has snapped, requiring us to rip a lot of it out to repair / replace it. When the men were mostly done with the floors, they started on the stairs, which was confusing because Sam told us different people would be working on them. The men over-trimmed the stairs framing and now they squeak. The flooring we had installed was vinyl, but the stairs needed to be solid wood. We made sure during the selection process they could match the stairs staining to the flooring and we were assured they could. They couldn’t… they didn’t pretreat the stairs, so the stain didn’t really take and turned into a huge issue with splotching, uneven application. When we questioned Sam about it, he told us “that’s the way it is with real wood”. It became such a huge mess, my husband decided to take over the work to ensure it would be done the way we wanted it to. He stained it and it came out even and not splotchy… The finishing of the trim was also terribly done. I had to go around the house and write down all the areas they missed the trim completely or did it incorrectly (one corner wasn’t even connected, they trimmed it short and when I asked them to redo it, they pushed back until Sam told them to). Nothing was really caulked either which has left gaps in the trim / floor for me to caulk. Overall, extremely disappointed considering we spent a small fortune and wanted to support a local business. Lesson learned: if you have to chase your contractor, find a new one.
