I came to Kitchen King in hopes of eating some good Jamaican food, however I was let down! I bought a small jerk chicken with rice and peas for my mom and I got myself a small curry goat with white rice. Both dishes were not fresh despite me coming right when the place opened up. My mom’s jerk chicken was hard for some pieces and my curry goat was definitely not fresh, all my pieces seemed to be from the bottom of the pot or just not cooked longer, to get that tender fall off the bone experience. Very disappointing. I paid quite a bit for everything only to be left dissatisfied. On a good note my mom and I both enjoyed the goat soup. Would not recommend for the food but the soup maybe.
I got some red peas soup with pigtail, some jerk pork meal and just the jerk pork. Had some ackee and saltfish also with food. When I am feeling homesick, great spot to go. I have been here 4 times all the way from Oshawa. Never disappointed.
Jerk chicken. Ain't taste like no jerk chicken. When you have to put bbq sauce on jerk chicken it aint jerk! And fridge aint working either drink was warm.
Food is way overpriced for what it is. Got a med jerk chicken and it covered in what seemed like a store bought bbq sauce. Didn’t even know jerk chicken came with bbq sauce on top. The chicken was ok nothing special just tasted more sauce than jerk seasoning. Rice and Mac salad was really nothing special at all either. Overall would give this meal a 5.5/10 maybe 6/10. Didn’t taste authentic and was quite disappointed as this was $20+. Definitely way better options out there for this price point.
Food is impeccable But listen.. the young guy I’m assuming the owners son when at the front needs to not cash anyone out especially when you can clearly tell he’s not in any mood to cash anyone out. He’s rude, body language and everything just turned my appetite off completely. The way he handed me the food, to the way he took the order was just completely not acceptable. If I’m coming to put my money into a business im not just coming for the food, im coming for the overall experience.
Was driving through the area and found this place, the reviews don't lie. The food was absolutely delicious, I had the ox tail. It was buttery, soft and moist. The gravy left the rice, almost like a risotto. The staff was very welcoming and humble. Unfortunately they weren't making ackee and salt fish that day, so call ahead if that's what you want. Highly recommend this spot for a good, hearty meal.
Been here twice in May 2021. Mom just died and my brother ordered food there as I was in the car waiting. Food and customer service was good. 2nd time: I'm clearing out mom's apartment and I am sent for food and the bully with dreadlocks is behind the counter being very aggressive and unprofessional with the customers as if we have entered his home. It had me remove the 5 stars I had originally. The guy was also saying rude comments about me to the lady from the back to start problems after giving me the food. Keep the server in the front. Cooks stay back and have a server going back and forth. He needs to change. Does he hate black people who support black businesses? He's trying to ruin the image of the shop. Get rid of him!
