Terrible place to workout. My lock was cut off and my debit card and license were stolen. The staff can’t help- apparently they have access to cameras but won’t reprimand the person stealing in any way. The bathrooms are disgusting. The seats are covered in urine at least 30% of the time, the showers are really dirty, you feel dirtier after the shower. The machines are always in use. Sometimes seniors just sit on machines to pass time. On top of everything, it’s insanely expensive. 60+ bucks a month is a ridiculous price for what you get. Don’t waste your money or time.
As much as I like ymca scarb, instructors are friendly and do their job well. There are parents who come with their shoe on despite ymca's effort posting a notice in different areas of the swimming area including locker rooms. I don't know how strict can ymca be about this but its an area or space where hygiene should be prioritized, and staffs should be given the authority to humbly notify parents with outdoor shoe on to either leave the space or let them know show isn't allowed. I also notice some adults bring snacks at the swimming area, and saw a staff calling 'em out(shout out to the staff). Service is good, reception desk staffs are kind and knows engaging with clients with respect. Just work on safty, and hygienes, also locker rooms need frequent cleanup. Some people have concern regarding locker room safety, I also lost my swimsuit which I forgot at the sauna room (Looks like someone took it because my attempt to look for it at the lost & found box wasn't successful) - patrons watch your belongings! Especial shout out to swim instructor Omar and Piri(Peeri), for coaching your students with utmost passion.
?⚠️ YMCA Scarborough = MOST UNSAFE PLACE ⚠️? I joined only for the♂️ pool (traveling from Kennedy) but this YMCA is a total FAILURE for security. Within 1 month I lost TWO bikes . ❌ No proper bike racks for members ❌ No security or police patrols♂️ ❌ Staff just file a “small complaint” + refuse to give CCTV footage ❌ Homeless/unsafe people walk in freely️ ❌ Employees hide their OWN bikes safely inside counters while paying members’ bikes get stolen outside! They only monitor cars & care about “rich” members. For regular people who use bikes — ZERO respect, ZERO safety. Staff can’t do anything, because of the broken political policies & city standards that put politics above people’s safety. ✅ Pool = Good ✅ Gym = Okay ❌ Security = 0/10 (RIDICULOUS) ❌ Value for $$$ = 0/10 (members ignored) ⚠️ Be VERY careful with your belongings. You’re paying monthly fees but getting NO security. 100% ridiculous. God save Toronto.
Amazing community space with employees that really care!!! Lots of classes for all ages and fitness levels. Very popular for the seniors as the aquafit is very well attended! Get the app so you can register for all courses.
I've been a member for six months and I'm enjoying it LOTS! YMCA Scarborough is a hidden gem. If you're looking for a gym you got to check it out. The YMCA will even let you try it for free. I got a complimentary three-day pass. My comments are as follow. My perspective is from someone who only uses the cardio and weight equipment. I like the Y because: -It's clean. -Disinfecting wipes can easily be found throughout the gym and work well (they're thick and soaked with disinfectant). -VAST variety of machines for doing cardio. You never have to wait for a machine. -EXTENSIVE selection and number of free weights and weight machines. One of the most common reasons people stop working out is boredom, but with so much variety it's hard to get bored. -All equipment, cardio, free weights, and weight machines are kept in exceptionally good condition, some are brand new. -The facilities have extremely lofty ceilings which give you a sense of amplitude. The equipment is nicely spaced out. Never feel crowded or cramped in. -Great ambiance! People of all body types and ages. Families working out together. Everybody belongs! -Friendly and approachable staff. Instructors often walk the facilities and are happy to answer questions on how to use equipment.
pretty decent gym! front desk staff seem nice. great for short term when you don’t want to pay for other commercial gyms + their annual fee. it can get pretty hot sometimes though. evenings get pretty busy. went here with my friend and some middle aged man in a bright blue shirt was really cranky and rushing our sets on a machine we were unfamiliar with, despite just using it for 2 minutes. not sure if he was a part of some staff/volunteer or not as some others had the same shirt. no need to be rude to people!
I have been a member since 2010 at least. I love it! Pros: 1-safe place for the whole family. 2- clean always 3- variety of programs. 4- convenient location. One star less because lots of concerns are not addressed and being ignored. Most of the staff is young folks who are volunteers and they would listen but nothing gets done. Cons: 1- downstairs yoga sound system hasn't been working for a long time, 2- Weight scale are not frequently calibrated. 3- Accessibility door at the entrance has a sticky and hard to press button. 4- Sometimes, Kids go unattended in the shower area were members have their cloths off. Where are their parents? 5- accessible entrance doors brass buttons are malfunctioning most of the times as shown in the video below. 6- limited seats at men's change room.
