Wonder Cabinets has been our primary kitchen supplier for over three years, and as a general contractor, we rely on them for a significant volume of our annual kitchen projects. While we encountered some logistical challenges at the beginning of our collaboration, the past two years have been consistently smooth. We particularly value Kenny's ability to scale operations to meet our needs.
If you’re reading this, your contractor has probably said he likes to use Wonder/Wonda Cabinet, but you’ve never heard of them and the reviews are sparse so you’re doubtful. We were in the same boat. I’ll tell you about our experience. There’s good and bad. We’ve had the cabinets for a couple of years. The good: -cabinet quality is excellent. We got painted maple cabinet fronts and they look and feel great with solid hardware. The drawer glides and door hinges are solidly built. We also got some thermafoil cabinets and the quality seems very good too. Btw thermafoil is way cheaper than painted and if you’re getting a common colour, like white, just go for it and save the money. Unless you really want the creamy luxury of paint. -the end-result (not the process, more on that below) of the installation is great. Everything is properly level, plumb, and aligned. The measurements are almost exact to the drawing. They did a good job with trim and filler pieces, scribing them to the walls and ceiling, which themselves weren’t straight. -they do their own quartz countertop through G&T Stone in Markham. We drove there to pick stones and the quality is great. The installation of the countertops was good too. Some of caulking has cracked but that’s not a big deal. They also provided (and installed) the stainless steel kitchen stink and it’s been great. -the price was also good. I called a few other cabinet stores to compare and these guys were much cheaper. -we also asked for a bunch of non-standard custom features and they simply said yes and built everything well. The bad: -the interface to the company is very informal. We interacted through Kenny and gave him drawings of our ideas via email. He formalized the drawings and we iterated over email, phone, and in-person meetings at the shop. This was over a period of several months. Despite being a very nice guy, he was difficult to reach, not responsive, and generally slow. I think he was really busy. You have to go in knowing mostly what you want and Kenny is great at making suggestions/tweaks. But my impression is they may not be great at doing a blank-slate design, because that requires a lot of back-and-forth responsive interaction, and he’s not good at that. The design process was very frustrating because of the poor responsiveness. In the end, we got it done though. -they were very late delivering the cabinets (a few weeks late). This was despite giving lots of notice of our delivery requirements and also them promising they’d do it on-time. Beware of this since late cabinets can really leave your renovation at a standstill. They continually promised delivery on a certain day and would call the day before and say they’d be late, “sorry”. Basically their schedules cannot be trusted at all. -the installation took much longer than promised. They said it’d be a couple days but it actually took a couple of weeks. They often showed up in the afternoon and worked late into the night (bizarre hours). Similar to delivery, their installation schedule cannot be trusted. In summary, good quality, good price, good installation. Terrible schedule and frustrating interface to the company. However, If I ever need cabinets again, I will still use them again, but I will have the correct expectations for the schedule. Start your cabinet design with them from the very beginning of your reno and ask for delivery before needing the cabinets, if you have the space to store them. Go to the shop in person to meet with Kenny or whoever, and iterate on your design face to face because it’ll be more productive than waiting for him to email you back. If you cannot be delayed then work with another cabinet maker. If you are a bit flexible, I think the quality and cost savings are worth working with Wonder. Even though I wanted to pull my hair out, I’m really happy in the end. I can’t comment on customer service after the job is done, as I haven’t needed to call them, which is itself a good sign.
David offered us a great price and excellent product for our basement kitchen. We appreciate his effort, and fully recommend Wonder Cabinet's craftsmanship in building good quality kitchen cabinets.
Worst service, took the job and promised us 5 weeks. 3 months later and the only way we could speak with them would be if we got in our car and drove to the shop as they would not take our call to give us an update. In the end we had to pull the job from them at a huge cost and delay to the project. Beware with these guys.
This cabinet store offers alot of quality work and focuses alot on small details that most contractors won't, and also not expensive. Worth going by to check them out, either for small cabinets or big kitchens, they are really nice.
