Really authentic. Tastes like home; a lot Of Hunan dishes I’ve ordered in Toronto never tasted like when I used to visit my relatives in Hunan, but this one tasted EXACTLY like How I had it in the village. I’m really impressed, I just wish their online menu had English.
Food 5/5 Service 5/5 Vibe 5/5 New Restaurant on pharmacy and mcnicoll in scarborough/toronto. I think the store originally was a boardgame store in a different unit but now just a restaurant. They specialize in hubei/hunan food 湖北菜 so its more spicy and fatty but super flavorful. Overall i think everything taste great, it is slightly more oily, but just a little dab dab and its all good. Highly recommend their chicken feet, pepper with pork 小炒肉 and stir fried beef 小炒黄牛肉! And if you like picked food, their picked bean with minced pork is also 5/5 酸豆角炒肉沫?
We all got diarrhea... Seriously. The server lady was not nice rolled her eye just because we asked to put less salt etc. And other than that, rice bowls was greasy when handed to us and we didn't bother asking them again, just wiped with wet napkin... Gave less than 10% tips because we were not happy and saw them give us looks fr the counter. Those ppl... Anyways will not come back . Be aware ppl
I used to be a loyal customer of Xiangfeng Hype, until a recent food poisoning incident changed everything. On May 28, 2024, I ordered lunch including Dry Pot Pork Intestine, Smoked Bamboo with Cured Pork, and Spicy Sour Chicken Giblets. Within an hour of eating, I experienced severe nausea, diarrhea, and later vomiting. I had to leave work early and spent the rest of the day extremely weak. What’s worse — two of my coworkers who shared the meal also developed diarrhea. When I contacted the restaurant, they first said “everyone’s body reacts differently to spicy food” and later insisted I would need to “get medical proof or stool samples” to support my claim. Despite my explaining that I still had the food and receipt, and that three people were affected, they continued to downplay the situation. I’ve reported this incident to Toronto Public Health for investigation. I’m deeply disappointed that a place I once supported with genuine affection responded with such irresponsibility when faced with a serious food safety issue. 作为湘逢hype的老顾客，我万万没想到最终让我食物中毒、跪在马桶前虚脱呕吐的，竟然是我一直喜爱的这家湘菜馆。 我在2024年5月28日中午点了他们家的干锅肥肠、烟笋炒腊肉、酸辣鸡杂和两碗米饭。吃完不到一个小时，我开始恶心腹泻，后来还呕吐，整个人虚弱到请假回家。我的另外两位同事也一起吃了这些菜，也出现了腹泻症状。 我打电话联系店家，他们第一反应是说“每个人体质不一样”“你要拿呕吐物和排泄物来化验才能说明问题”，完全回避多人的症状事实。哪怕我告诉他们我保留了收据和菜品、还有同事和雇主可以作证，他们也还是各种模糊推脱。 我已经把这次事件报告给了多伦多公共卫生局（Toronto Public Health）。 一个本该以食品安全为底线的餐厅，面对问题不但没有重视，反而急着撇清责任，实在让人寒心。
Short staffed. One waitress+one cashier/waitress. The senior waitress lady was extremely rude, eyeballed us multiple times when we ask for bowls and spoons for fried rice, for water, and when the dishes would arrive after 30mins wait. She yelled at us and cut us off EVERY SINGLE TIME. She shut me up by saying “I know I know”, when I was asking for bowls and spoons, but she didn’t even let me finish my sentence, so I had to go to the cashier to grab spoons myself. And she shouted at us and eyeballed us when we ask for ice water. By 9 when there’s only 3 tables left, that senior waitress lady was literally sitting in the middle of the room grumpily eyeballing the remaining 3 tables with extreme hatred. The food was very good and authentic, the chef was saving the day at the back, and the waitress was ruining all the efforts all by herself. The owner of the restaurant needs to come and see how their customers are treated if they want to keep the business running. That waitress lady is a disaster for any restaurant.
We two arrived at 11:30 at night and the restaurant is still open till 3:00. It is so convenient for night owls. Food is authentic and made us feel like eat in China. We ordered lamb kebab which is delicious. Korean cold noodles tastes good. Service is fast and great. Will definitely come back again.
Small cute place. Camping theme. Service was slowish as others mentioned but not overly. Food was hot and cooked well. I have a few issues. 1) all items are spiced with the exact same spice. Lamb, pork belly, cabbage. Doesn't matter. All the same. 2) they had no forks for someone who couldn't use chopsticks due to arthritis 3) we had ordered a soup but received no spoons or small bowls to share it or eat it. Most distrubing of all 4) while we were eating, two kitchen staff came out with a bucket of raw meat, sat at the table next to us and proceeded to make skewers in the dining room. When I say next to us, I mean we literally turned to the guy and asked for our bill. He got it, never taking his glove off that was in the raw meat and just sat back down and started skewering the meat again. I will not be returning.
